Christmas is a festival of traditions - and flavours. Dumplings are the faithful accompaniment to roast duck and game dishes on many festive tables. But what about guests who avoid animal products? They can enjoy them too, because dumplings are just as vegan. The key is to preserve the familiar flavour and consistency to bring the Christmas tradition to the plate.
Difference between dumplings ("Klöße") and dumplings ("Knödel")
Some northerners may wonder why we are talking about dumplings as a culinary Christmas tradition. After all, dumplings end up on their festive table. Absolutely right. After all, dumplings ("Knödel") and dumplings ("Klöße") both refer to balls of dough that are either savoury or sweet, plain or with sophisticated fillings. Although the ingredients and preparation methods vary, the difference between them lies mainly in their regional names. In southern Germany, Austria and South Tyrol, the term Knödel is common, while Klöße is used in northern and western Germany.
