Storing tomatoes correctly: how to keep them fresh and flavourful

  • Temperature: Storage in the fridge affects the texture and flavour of the tomatoes. The optimum temperature is between 12 and 18 °C.
  • Light: Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can affect the flavour of the tomatoes. A cool, dark place such as a cupboard or pantry is ideal.
  • Ventilation: Good ventilation prevents the formation of mould. Tomatoes should be stored loosely and not in airtight containers.
  • Separation: By releasing ethylene, tomatoes can accelerate the ripening process of other fruit and vegetables. They should therefore be stored separately from other products.
